“TOO tiny” was new Cranes coach Laszlo Csaba’s verdict on the physique of Ugandan players after he watched his first game on Wednesday.
He however feels qualification for the Nations Cup finals in Ghana is a realistic target after being impressed with the ‘ball technique’ of Ugandan footballers.
Csaba had his first glance of local players at the SC Villa-Police FC goalless fixture at Namboole.
Watching with his assistants Polly Ouma and Jackson Mayanja, the German identified Villa forwards Robert Ssentongo and Augustine Nsumba as ‘exciting’.
“The size of the players is not really the best but I can make something out of them. It was my first look at the players but I will judge conclusively after watching other teams play,” he said.
“Apart from the pace of the two players (Nsumba and Ssentongo), we have to improve on the general pace of the game,” he noted.
The German was in a position to identify several weak areas that he felt will be rectified during training sessions and build up games.
“Free kicks are poorly taken and the closing of space in midfield should be revised. Any dangerous side will finish you off. Players have to learn to be free with the ball and ensure coordinated movement,” Csaba stressed.
Csaba , who has also not watched any of the professional players, will have an idea of what team to expect when he conducts his first training session at Nakivubo on Sunday.
