LEAGUE defending champions Nkumba-Marines will today open their MTN basketball league second round campaign against Miracle at the YMCA courts.

Marines, who finished the first round in second place on 16 points behind Falcons on the Yello Max Conference standings, will look not only to improve their goal average, but also overtake Falcons for pole position after today’s match-up.

The Entebbe-based Marines will be boosted by the return of 2005 Most Valuable Player (MVP) Norman Blick and forward Carroll Bisereko, fresh from competing in the Africa University Games in South Africa.

Miracle, on the other hand, will look to fast improving point guard Ben Komakech who not only made the trip to South Africa for the University meet, but also led Miracle to a fifth-place round one finish after their 62-52 routing of giants Charging Rhinos. Komakech will team up with Raymond Bukenya, Allan Masaba, Chris Kyebambe, Allan Kampororo and James Kirabo as they look to pull off another upset and collect maximum points.

Elsewhere, Charging Rhinos embark on a four-hour northward trek to Gulu for a date with Murchison Hawks at the Caribbean court.
