DORCUS Inzikuru lost her first steeplechase race since 2004 when she came second to Kenyan Jeruto Kiptum in the Olympic Grand Prix meeting on Monday in Thessaloniki, Athens.

The World and Commonwealth champion looked rusty on her comeback after three months out of competition following a series of hiccups that included an accident, an allergy and then a hamstring injury when she failed to finish a race in April.

She ran 9:36.78, her slowest time since the Ostrava meet in June 2003 when she clocked 9:39.51.
The time is a whole 20 seconds slower than her personal best of 9:15.04 set in Athens in June last year.

“The good thing is that she was able to finish the race. It is good for her confidence and I am sure she would have recovered by the time we start the continental championships next month,” said UAF secretary Beatrice Ayikoru said.
