The port handled 12.92 million in 2004. But this will grow by 5.7% next year, top officials said.

According to a report released by KPA, the cargo handling firm is set to handle container throughput of about 485,000 teus by end of next year, as compared to 438,000 and 440,000 teus it dealt with in 2004 and 2005 respectively.

The upsurge in growth, according to the KPA Managing Director Abdhallah Mwaruwa, is attributed to the ongoing implementation of 2004 master plan, that is projected to cover the next 25 years.
