Teaching Kiswahili will not begin next year

SIR — I would like to correct the statement attributed to me in the new Vision of Wednesday that Kiswahili will be taught in all secondary schools next year. Whereas it is true the ministry has the obligation to fulfil the requirements of ensuring Kiswahili is taught in schools in the spirit of the East African Cooperation and Integration, there are modalities to put in place before the teaching of the language begins. This is still ongoing and it is therefore not possible that by next year Kiswahili will be taught in all secondary schools in Uganda.
