MOHAMMAD ‘Swico’ Kizito combined stamina with talent to beat hard-punching Kenyan Twalib ‘Tank’ Mubiru at Sabrinas Pub Sunday night.
The professional Ugandan super bantamweight rallied from a second round knock down to register his first win after a year of inactivity.
It was however the home fans that were tense at the start of the ten round African Boxing Union tune-up fight.
Mubiru 9-2-1(2kos) had Kizito back peddling with solid rights and stinging jabs occasionally but the Kenyan’s superior reach was an obstacle.
It was only in the dying minutes that Kizito took charge, sending the packed crowd into chants of “swico, swico.â€
The judges scored 99-100, 98-94, 98-93.
“I promised to torture him to the end. I am now ready for whoever comes my way,†Kizito told his fans after the fight that has brought him closer to a continental title contest.
The fight, sponsored by MTN, Simba Telecom and Kampala Central Division, attracted one of the biggest crowds.
Excited central division chairman Godfrey Nyakana offered sh0.4m and gloves.
