The parliamentary committee on appointments yesterday approved President Yoweri Museveni’s appointments to the Judicial Service Commission. They include Prof. Frederick Ssempebwa, Justice Cosmas Matongo, Peter Jogo Tabu, Henry Kyemba and Justice Bart Katureebe. Esther Mayambala, who was appointed vice-chairperson, was not vetted as she was reportedly out of the country.

The High Court Judge presiding over an election petition filed against third deputy premier Kirunda Kivejinja is not well. justice Kibuuka was yesterday unable to preside over the case due to an eye ailment. Court adjourned the hearing to August 23. The petition against Kivejinja, the Bugweri MP, was filed by his predecessor, Abdu Katuntu. Katuntu, through his lawyer Erias Lukwago, is seeking to set aside the election results, claiming the exercise was rigged.
