FORMER league champions Falcons upset Kampala International University (KIU) 73-65 in an explosive MTN basketball league encounter on Sunday at the YMCA courts.

Falcons’ guard Charles Ssubi was on fire from the tip off, leading the team with five 3-point shots (15 points) for a 15-13 first quarter advantage.

Falcons maintained their form in the second quarter, as Sam Obol stepped up his game, supporting Ssubi on the offensive attack to give the red and white outfit team a 32-28 lead at halftime.

On resumption, Isaac Afidra and Emma Baguma were on rampage for KIU, leading their assault with 15 and 12 points respectively to close the gap and give the Kansanga-based team 58-56 lead with 45 seconds left to play.

But KIU failed to maintain their form as Henry Mwinuka lost the ball to Obol, who evened the score at 58-58 at the final whistle to force the game into overtime.

With a rebounding advantage in Henry Malinga, Falcons dominated the five-minute overtime for a convincing 73-65 victory.
