STUDENTS, who have been dismissed from Makerere University (MUK) over academic incompetence, now have reason to smile.

According to a new policy formulated at a special sitting of the Senate, the students would still be eligible for studies at the institution.

A notice signed by the academic registrar Olal Odur said, “Students who are discontinued from studies because of weak academic performance will be permitted to re-apply to another programme and compete with other applicants for readmission into first year.”

Odur said the new policy takes effect this academic year, which is already underway. Students who are re-admitted would not be permitted to transfer credit units from previous programmes, the notice said.

However students, who are dismissed due to academic irregularities, would not be considered for readmission.
