BADMINTON - Edwin Ekiring’s chances of benefiting from a two-year Beijing 2008 Olympic badminton scholarship, are being hindered by lack of funds. The funds are required to enable him participate in a series of international competitions, which is mandatory during his stay in Germany. Gunther Huber, the centre director, said Ekiring needs Euros 900 (sh2.1m).

Kenya board
SOCCER - Sports minister Maina Kamanda on Wednesday inaugurated a 16-member management board of the Kenya national team Harambee Stars for a three-year period. UVF referees
VOLLEYBALL - Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF) beach volleyball commission has passed out 20 referees. The graduates, three of who are women, are the first lot of trained referees in the last two years.

IOC TV rights
OLYMPICS - The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has signed a "significantly increased" 2012 Olympic broadcast right deal for the Middle East with the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU). The ASBU would be able to air the London Games across all platforms in all languages throughout the region in a $21m deal, a "significant increase" from the Beijing 2008 Games deal.
