KAMPALA City Council (KCC) did not consult the Government over the opening of a bus terminal in Nateete, the works minister said on Friday.

KAMPALA City Council (KCC) did not consult the Government over the opening of a bus terminal in Nateete, the works minister said on Friday.
John Nasasira said, “Any policy on transport is by the Ministry of Works and Transport and KCC would be an implementer. We were taken by surprise to hear about KCC opening a bus park and ordering bus operators from western region to stop in Nateete. KCC has never consulted us on the bus park.â€
He added, “I was made to understand that when buses were evicted from the Baganda Bus Park, there were some bus owners who acquired land in Kisenyi where they are constructing a terminal. We thought that’s where the buses were to be relocated.â€
“Our policy is to have bus and taxi parks outside the city centre, but it is not a matter of just making decrees,†Nasasira said, adding, “We are going to resolve this problem when we meet with the mayor.â€
The relocation of buses to the Nateete terminal has stalled, with some bus owners vowing not to use it.
The multi-million terminal covering about four acres belongs to city businessman Louis Ntale.
Owners of five bus companies recently said they had invested sh2b in constructing a terminal in Kisenyi and could not relocate to Nateete. Local government minister Kahinda Otafiire has backed operators declining to relocate.
