STEPHEN Kawuma guided table leaders Mulago Kings to victory in the national chess league on Sunday.

He beat Michael Mawanda as the Kings edged Aviation 2.5 – 1.5 in a tension-packed tie at Lugogo.

Mulago’s Isaac Munanira had a rough evening after falling a painful loss to Aviation’s Stephen Kisuze in a highly-billed tie.

Vianney Luggya managed a draw against charging Moses Kawuma who picked another point to ensure Mulago remains top of the standings.

Kampala Club talisman Shadrack Kantinti was in top form with a resounding victory against Makerere’s Ivan Kaddu. Peter Kasozi and Simon Iga could only manage a draw against Makerere’s Emmanuel Otella and John Ntende respectively.

Action continues Sunday with Luzira, Aviation and Kampala Club fighting to move from the bottom.
