Uganda’s role as an emerging supplier of cut flowers and flower cuttings to the European and non-European markets is increasingly being recognised by global buyers.

Uganda made its maiden appearance at the International Hortifair Exhibition at the RAI Complex in Amsterdam, Netherlands, where it featured higher altitude, intermediate and spray roses from eight farms.

Uganda’s small size roses excited visitors, buyers and other participants at the show because of their uniqueness in size. Over 20 varieties of Uganda’s cut flowers were showcased.

Wim van der Loo, one of the Hortifair directors, said, “Uganda is greatly appreciated by the flower industry, but her potential has been limited by inconsistent supply of second-rate quality cut flowers. For the chrysanthemum flower cuttings, they are doing perfect.”

Van der Loo said the quality and supply must be boosted.
