UGANDANS should appreciate the work done by scientists to develop the country, leading scientists have recommended.

The scientists said their efforts are frustrated by Ugandans who take long to believe in their research findings, hence delaying some developmental processes.

The Executive Secretary of the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology, Peter Ndemere, said: “It is surprising that people go to Mulago and don’t ask doctors how the medicine was made, but when it comes to scientific research, their questions are enormous.”

Ndemere was on Thursday addressing MPs on the sessional committee for science and technology, scientists and stakeholders on biotechnology and biosafety developments at the Grand Imperial Hotel, Kampala.

He said the national policy on biotechnology and biosafety was submitted to the finance ministry in June.

The assistant presidential adviser on science and technology, Richard tushemereirwe, said the finance ministry had delayed the approval of the policy.
