VETERAN Hussein Mbalangu gave his side a late Christmas present that put them top of the Super League table for the first time yesterday.

Mbalangu struck on 64 minutes as Masindi-based side Kinyara beat struggling Mukono.

Coach Leo Adraa’s Kinyara started the game nervously, aware that victory would put them top of the table. Mbalangu capitalised on the inexperience of substitute goalkeeper Patrick Kalungi.

Kalungi came in for Moses Kasule who was rushed to hospital after he collided with defenders in an aerial battle.

The result preserves Kinyara’s unbeaten run in the league and puts them top of the table on goal difference ahead of ‘Christmas champions’ KCC.

At Namboole, URA killed off Simba with two early goals.

The champions struck within the first fifteen minutes through goals by Sam Mubiru’s header and a Patrick Ochan tap-in.

URA were boosted by the return of the versatile Phillip Obwiny and midfield general Noah ‘Babadi Kasule from suspension. Simba will however protest URA’s use of David Kazibwe, who they claim has served only one of a recent two match ban.
