FACE Technologies has acquired 20 Card Validation Devices (CVD) worth $1.6m (sh2.8b)

Emmanuel Mugarura, the firm’s corporate and business development manager, said the devices are to be distributed to traffic Police for reading the computerised driving permits.

“The most valuable information and features on the permits like class can only be detected by the CDV. More units will be imported soon to meet the demand,” Mugarura added.

He said over 70,000 driving permits received for renewal, conversion, duplication and for exchange were faulty or forged.

“Computerised permits can’t be forged because they are made from strong papers like those of bank notes. These permits are water-resistant,” Mugarura asserted at Pelikan Hotel in Mbarara.

“The Uganda Revenue Authority still charges provisional driving permits, test fees and driving permit fees. Face prints and issues scanned provisional and computerised permits after payments are made in banks,” Mugarura elaborated.
