KAMPALA — President Yoweri Museveni might forgive the Lord’s Resistance Army commander, leader Joseph Kony, and his top commanders if they seize the peace talks opportunity and renounce rebellion. Internal affairs minister Ruhakana Rugunda, who is leading the government peace team, told the Capital Gang talk show on Saturday that the government was in a forgiving mood.

FDC wants fair polls
KAMPALA — The government should level the ground for a free and fair election in 2006, a Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) co-chairperson has said. Chapaa Karuhanga told journalists at his office on Sunday that “participating in elections where NRM is perpetually misusing the army to intimidate opponents would legitimise a dictatorship.”

MBARARA — nakasongola women leaders last week visited President Yoweri Museveni at his Rwakitura country home. The 180 women led by their woman MP, Grace Tubuita, returned from Rwakitura with smiles after Museveni pledged to support their development projects.

GULU — President Yoweri Museveni has appealed to women councillors to use radio stations to sensitise the public on the dangers of the HIV/AIDS scourge. He said this while receiving a delegation of 30 women councillors from the municipality at the Gulu State lodge over the weekend.

Three killed in rebel raid
NEBBI — Three traders were killed when congolese rebels belonging to the Front for the Pacification of Ituri raided a market on the Uganda-Congo border. Security sources said the rebels demand money from the traders during the December 27 raid. The rebels were repulsed by the UN Peace Keeping Mission in the DR Congo. Eight were arrested.
