THE body of former Mufti Sheikh Mohammad Semakula was driven from and back to Kampala, as the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) decided on where to bury him, reports Kiganda Ssonko.

Semakula, born in 1916 and a Mufti from 1997-2000, died of high blood pressure at Mulago hospital in Kampala, on Saturday.

Shortly after his death UMSC resolved that he be buried at Old Kampala near former Muftis Kassim Mulumba and Saad Luwemba.

On Sunday his body was moved from his late son’s home in Makindye to Butambala for cleansing and prayers and then sent back to Old Kampala for burial.

However, at Busega, it was driven back to Butambala, following a call from the Mufti, Ramathan Mubajje. This confused hundreds of mourners who had thronged Old Kampala to pay their last respects.

But the Mufti apologised for the mix up during the burial. Sources said UMSC was planning to exhume the bodies at the Old Kampala Mosque.
