MBARARA Municipality MP Winnie Byanyima has communicated to Parliament Speaker Edward Ssekandi, explaining her delay to resign the Mbarara Municipality seat.

“In the first week of this month, Byanyima e-mailed the speaker, explaining the delay. She said in a few days she would submit her resignation letter but we have not received it,” the outgoing Parliament public relations manager, Kagole Kivumbi, said yesterday.

Last November, Byany-ima requested for leave and said she intended to resign by December 2004.

Byanyima was last year appointed the African Union’s director for women, gender and development in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The Parliament’s rules of procedure state that the speaker gives a leave of absence to an MP who has a sufficient cause.
