MAKINDYE Division paid sh1m to a Mengo minister as facilitation to inspect and approve places the Kabaka, Ronald Mutebi II, was to visit.

Mutebi visited Makindye Division in Kampala on Saturday.

Sources in the division said the minister demanded for the money before he could inspect the areas.

Sources said the minister claimed the sh1m would facilitate him and his team.

The sources also said the division had not budgeted the sh1m, although money for fuel and gifts (Amakula) for the Kabaka were on the budget.

“Every place the Kabaka visited had to be approved by the minister. We do not know if all the places were inspected but the minister was facilitated,” a source said.

Division chairman Deo Kijjambu refused to comment on the matter.
“As a Muganda, I cannot talk about how much was spent and who was given which money. I believe all money spent in Buganda is for the Kabaka,” he said.

Makindye is the fourth division the Kabaka has visited since he started his tour of the city late last year.

Places visited by the Kabaka in Makindye division were Namuwongo Market, Kibuli Hospital, Nsambya General Clinic and Kampala International University.
Others were Kampala University, Gaba Market, Kiruddu-Buziga Health Centre, Katwe Market and Makindye Division headquarters.
