JINJA — HIV/AIDS has greatly impacted on the social well-being and cross-border security between Uganda and Kenya, a President’s Office secretary has said. She said HIV/AIDS should be attended to effectively to eradicate poverty. Thecla Kinalwa was speaking at the fourth Uganda/Kenya border commissioners’ meeting at Sunset Hotel recently.

Army chases
MBALE — The UPDF last Saturday flushed out Sudanese Toposa pastoralists who had been grazing cattle in Kidepo National Park. The commanding officer of the UPDF 3rd Division, Col. Silver Kayemba, said a helicopter gunship was used to flush out the pastoralists, who had illegally entered the national park with over 20,000 head of cattle.

Cops shifted
JINJA — At least 150 lower rank police officers have been transferred in a massive exercise within the south-eastern region. Regional police commander Simon Peter Wagama said the transfers were effected from December last year. He said the transfers were normal.
