THE Masindi district education department has closed two secondary schools in Kibanda county, which have been operating illegally.

The district inspector of schools, Peter Isingoma, closed Bweyale Academy and Bweyale Public secondary school recently.

He said the schools were not licensed and advised the students to register in other schools.

“We have started with these two schools but the inspection exercise is still going on. Any school which fails to meet the requirements will be closed,” Isingoma said.

He said some private schools did not follow the guidelines provided by the Ministry of Education.

Isingoma said in both schools, male and female students were sharing one latrine.

Both schools had make-shift classrooms with students sitting on benches instead of desks.

“The schools were even posing a health threat to surrounding homes,” he said.
Isingoma said the students were sneaking to residents’ latrines, and others had resorted to the bush to answer nature’s call.

He advised school proprietors to seek guidance from the relevant departments before opening up schools.
Isingoma warned school proprietors who open up schools just to make money, instead of promoting education.

“Apart from doing business, school owners should know that the Government expects them to provide quality education to the students. We shall not sit back and allow businessmen to exploit the people” Isingoma said.
