WITH Netball Federation (UNF) general elections set for Saturday, rivals for the presidency are entangled in a fierce battle.

Incumbent Lydia Bukenya (right) faces a stiff challenge from National Insurance Corporation official Ruth Rwakabale. Bukenya has since asked her opponent to step down so she can get a third term.

Bukenya claimed earlier that the challenger had agreed to step down for her, but Rwakabale strongly denied and has instead asked the incumbent to retire.

Rwakabale blamed Bukenya for the declining standards and failure to get sponsors for the league.

“I agree she (Bukenya) has done a lot to develop the game and she should be the one to step down because she has continued to fail some points,” Rwakabale said.

Bukenya has however, insisted her regime has steered Ugandan netball to the helm in the East African region and that she would only back off after hosting the forthcoming zone v Netball championships.
