DP’s old brooms
Old brooms know all corners. Two veterans of DP, Professor Frederick Ssempebwa and Professor Senteza Kajubi are back in the fold with one mission. Sweep away all the dirt in all corners of the Democratic Party. The two professors are now set to hold storm settling talks among all the warring factions of the party, in preparation for the 2006 elections. Ssempebwa seeks to transfer his experience as the Constitutional Review Commission to the troubled party. Whether they will succeed, time will tell.

Katikkiro ambitions
The fact that government and Mengo agreed to a regional tier is no longer hot news. The focus has now been turned to individuals who are eyeing the post of Katikkiro of Buganda region. First, it was Dr. Sulaiman Kiggundu who had shown interest. Now, newly promoted and retired Brigadier Kasirye Gwanga has firmly announced his intentions to grab the seat. “ My programmes will include building roads and constructing schools,” he said. There is however a call to all Baganda that once the current Katikkiro Joseph Ssemwogerere stands, everybody should give way!

FDC, women votes
After a scathing attack by Anne Mugisha about the manner in which women were left out of key positions in the FDC, the group has now launched a campaign to win the women vote. The peaceful demonstration during the women`s day at Mpigi was just one of these measures. They then announced that 40% of all positions will go to women if FDC comes to power. Now, FDC is soon going to move woman to woman explaining why NRM-O is no safe haven for the mothers. Will women listen?

Clarification
In our Corridors of Power column of Tuesday March 8, we wrongly reported that new minister of state for trade, Nathan Nabeta Igeme attended a UCTU function in Kawempe and said he still needed guidance because he was still new in the office.
We have since learnt that Hon. Igeme neither attended nor spoke in Kawempe. The remarks attributed to him were made to his technical team during his inaugural speech, seeking their support in the new ministry.

We regret the error and embarrassment caused to the minister.
