FORMER Olympians Jolly Katongole and Sadat Tebazalwa have received a call to the national boxing trials for the Africa Zone Five tournament this weekend.

The showdown at Lugogo will be an opportune moment for the pair to prove they are worth the grade in the national team — The Bombers.

The two boxers skipped the Seniors Open championship in January and were thereafter ignored by the Bombers.

Light flyweight Jolly Katongole faces new Naguru sensation Mohamed Kaboggoza.

Kaboggoza, 18, is the new kid on the block that is expected to give Katongole a bloody nose.

UABF has summoned 55 boxers for the two-day event that starts on Saturday.

Gifted with a long arm-reach, Kaboggoza, who hails from Uganda’s boxing capital Naguru suburb, upset seasoned Philip Adyak of UPDF to the title in January.

Also included in the lightfly contest is cricketer-cum-boxer Godfrey Nyero who rose to the limelight in the Cadets championship.

In the welterweight, Tebazalwa will have the task to disprove KBC’s Paul Serunjogi and COBAP’s Emmy Kyambadde.

Apart from selecting the national team for the Zone Five meet in Nairobi, the event will also help fundraise for the team, UABF secretary Sande Musoke said yesterday.

An explosive contest is expected in the heavyweight, where UPDF’s Tyson Ochaya faces Ali Hassan (Kololo), William Kisitu (KBC) and Ben Kamyuka (Lukanga).
