VILLA and KCC had their interest in continental football unceremoniously extinguished with losses this weekend.
Truth be told, Villa’s odds against Al Ahly, the seasoned Egyptian campaigners, were always long and modest.

KCC, on the other hand, was expected to earn a favourable result south of the border. Yet, physically and psycologically crippled by the usual catalogue of administrative handicaps, they allowed APR victory, to give to our bitter rivals, Rwanda more soccer bragging rights.

Incidentally, both episodes are painful reminders of the football truism that team-building should never play second-fiddle to any other ingredient in the recipe designed for soccer success.

It’s a truism Ugandan clubs have taken for granted of recent. The current turn over rate of playing staff has hit alarming records. The days when pressmen and fans could forecast the probable squads with accuracy are long gone.

‘Back to the drawing-board’ has converted into a popular refrain over the years —— due to our perennial failures.
If KCC and Villa adhere to the message and revisit the drawing-board of team-building, then success will beckon.
The current get-success quick schemes should be abandoned forthwith
