THE Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has welcomed the Attorney General’s (AG) guidelines to the Police allowing political parties activities, reports Isaac Kalembe.
“This is a welcome development. Parties have a right to hold rallies and meetings,†FDC vice-chairperson Prof. Ogenga Latigo told journalists at the FDC headquarters yesterday.
Latigo (above) said the Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen. Katumba Wamala, had ordered the Police to leave the political parties to hold rallies.
Addressing a gathering in Yumbe on Thursday, Wamala said according to the guidelines from the AG, a party with a certificate of registration only needed to notify the Police of a planned rally.
Latigo also welcomed President Yoweri Museveni’s call to the army to remain partisan, fight corruption and maintain peace.
