KAMPALA — The Court of Appeal yesterday rejected a request by the democratic Party to stop the High Court from hearing an application by its breakaway faction to register the party. The court said it was not satisfied that the appeal by party chief Paul ssemogerere’s group would be jeopardised if the proceeding in the High Court were not stayed.

UPC mourns
KAMPALA — The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has sent a condolence message to Cardinal emmanuel Wamala upon the death of Pope John Paul II. Party official Badru Wegulo on Tuesday said UPC would “remain grateful for the Pope’s relentless campaign against vices of violence and war to solve man-made conflicts.”

Three killed
MUKONO — A primary school headteacher and two other people were on Tuesday killed in an accident at Kitega in Lugazi. Traffic chief James Wakooli said Abdallah Ggayi of Kiwanga UMEA primary school in Seeta town and an unidentified man died on spot while Sam Kizito of Kasaku died on the way to hospital.

Thugs shoot
KAMPALA — Armed thugs on Tuesday waylaid and shot a man as he entered his house in a city suburb. Police spokesman Asuman Mugenyi said Moses Segawa was shot at his Mpererwe home at 8:00pm. He is admitted at Kampala International Hospital.
