Fighting HIV using drama
JINJA — Busoga Kingdom has started an HIV awareness project through music shows and radio messages. The project also aims at empowering local artists to disseminate messages through the shows. “We provide financial and technical assistance to selected groups that preach abstinence, faithfulness and condom use,” said Martha Butono, the project coordinator. She was addressing a workshop at St. Jude Community Centre on Thursday.

Mayor warns on stadium
IGANGA — Mayor Constantine Bukyabubi has threatened to sue the people who divided up the town’s only stadium for sale. Bukyabubi on Friday said, “We had used that field for over 60 years, then some people claimed it and divided it into 16 plots valued at about sh64m. We should sue.”

Official remanded
JINJA — A Uganda national travellers organisation official has been charged with malicious damage to a car. Medi Ssebuliba allegedly smashed the front windscreen of a mini-bus as he executed his duties on Nizam Road recently. The driver had reportedly failed to pay the passenger-loading fee.
