Falcons v Marines, 5pm

THE battle to avoid an opening game loss will provide sporting drama of the most compelling kind when the 2005 MTN basketball league tips off at Lugogo today, writes Gloria Kyomugisha.
Champions Falcons embark on their title defense against an equally determined Nkumba-Marines’ team in the opening match of the league.
At the same function, MTN will announce and handover this season’s sponsorship package to FUBA officials.
Despite losing their stars Albert Aciko and Ivan Enabu, Marines are determined to cause an early upset.
“We are still a solid team even without the two. More of the talking will be on court not in the papers,” Marines player Karol Bisereko said.
The Falcons-Marines encounter is expected to showcase skill in various positions on the court.

Point guards
In Aciko’s absence, there could be a call-up for Norman Blick to switch from small forward position and take on the commanding role.
Shooting guards
A position where full fitness must be exposed with Marines’ Donald Blick whose rebounding and blocking capabilities will be countered by Falcons’ Sam Obol and shooter Andrew Tendo.
Power forwards
A powerful area for the Falcons, especially with Eric Malinga prepared to deliver the jump shots as Henry Malinga cleans the boards. Norman Blick should alternate with Karl Mugalu to put on a show for Marines.
