Artiste set for amateur race
Over 200 upcoming local artistes have entered the Premier Star Fest, a music competition for upstarts, which kicks off tomorrow at MM Pub in Kabuusu. Many established local artistes have also entered the competition.

Artistes like Red Banton and Weasle and Chagga had by the closure of the registration last week entered the amateur race. Others include Mosh Sendi, Viboyo, Cooler Man, Benon and Vampos, Rocky Giant, Queen Florence, Harriet Kisaakye, No Creature, Helen, radio comedian Kayibanda. An artiste is required to have recorded between at least three songs and two albums to be eligible.

Night to end stars feuds
The Lion’s Discotheque in Bwaise has come up with an idea aimed at ending feuds between local artistes.

They have introduced the Ani asinga (who is the best) Night, every Sunday night, where different artistes in the same music category perform to prove their supremacy other than exchanging insults.

Artistes like Bobi wine, Bebe Cool, Ragga Dee and Chameleone have been involved in verbal and physical fights.

Eagles’ duo for joint album
Eagles Production band’s Fred Seruga and Catherine Kusaasira released a joint CD album last week on a Dick Production label.

It features solo production efforts of Travis Kazibwe from Kasiwukira Studios. The six-track CD titled Sitima Empya (new lantern), is an expression the two use to denote their love for each other.

Another track, Omukwano Gwompa talks about the comfortable the two feel about each other.

Drum Beat on song
Dancers from the Drum Beat of Uganda, a cultural performing troupe based at Kyanja, recently demonstrated the richness of traditional music with a spectacular show at Bulange Mengo.

The performance was one of the activities for the launch of ‘Entanda Ya Buganda’, a Ganda cultural quiz on CBS radio.

They presented a variety of dances from Buganda, including Baakisimba-Muwogola and Nankasa, using traditional instruments like xylophones, adungu and tube fiddle.

Ssemakula’s Gospel song
Mesach Ssemakula of Eagles Production is not a professed Gospel artiste, but his voice has become popular to lovers of Christian music. What is currently popularising Ssemakula among Gospel music lovers is his religious song titled Kankutendereze (Let Me Praise you Lord), taken from his album, Abakazi Abaguma. The song enjoys fair airplay on local Christian fm radio stations.

The religious appeal of the song is arguably what attracts Christian fans to Ssemakula. The track has a captivating fusion of reggae and rumba beats.
