The retired Bishop of Muhabura Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Ernest Shalita, on Sunday cried as he pleaded for forgiveness for playing a key role in the succession crisis that has plagued the diocese for nearly four years.
Amid cheers and ululation from Christians who filled the cathedral to capacity, Shalita, with tears flowing down his cheeks, urged Christians who took part in the crisis to confess and start rebuilding the diocese.
“My Lord Archbishop, I have been directly involved in this conflict. But today I ask for forgiveness from God and others who were involved so that we leave our past and bring back the glory of God to this Church,” Shalita said.
This was after archbishop Henry Orombi, on a three-day pastoral visit to Kisoro, made a moving sermon that touched many in the cathedral.
Shalita asked the head of the laity, Philemon mateke, to confess and stop politicising the crisis.
