THERE is need to equip the youth with enough knowledge to safeguard them against exploitation during the political transition, the National Youth Council (NYC) chairperson has said.

Joseph Okwakol said many youth were still ignorant about their rights and freedoms, which has kept them vulnerable to exploitation by politicians.

“Our youth are aware of their would-be rights and freedoms but lack the impetus to exercise such rights to influence and participate in decision making,” Okwakol said.

He was addressing a Canadian International Agency-funded civic and political rights peer education workshop for youth leaders from West Nile at Pacific Hotel in Arua town on Saturday.

Gender minister Zoe Bakoko Bakoru said the government had allocated sh1b for the nyc.
