THE number of mobile phone users in Africa is expected to more than double by 2009 following the launch of the Global System for Mobile Communication.
This was announced during the east and central Africa conference and exhibition at the Whitesands Hotel in Mombasa, Kenya recently.
"East and central Africa will have unprecedented growth of its mobile market," Jordan Stone, the event researcher, said in a statement.
Dairy divestiture

NEGOTIATIONS for the divestiture of Dairy Corporation will start as soon as the parliamentary finance committee report is out, privatisation state minister, Prof Peter Kasenene, has said.
He said the Thai investor, Boonyarat Chatichai, had sent terms for the management contract.
Sh500m deal

THE Government has earmarked sh500m to supply boda boda operators in Mukono with 250 motorcycles on a soft loan basis.
Peter Bakaluba Mukasa, the Mukono North MP, said the deal was an anti-poverty project under President Museveni's bona bagagawale (richness for all) Scheme.
