IF prophesying holds meaning in an age where ‘facts’ count beyond ‘wishes’ then the 2005 league that kicks off today could go down as the most aggressive in Ugandan football.
The City Tyres sponsored league has been revised to a tournament format, making it easier to manage but not for team coaches, four of whom go into action at Namboole and Nakivubo stadia.
Asuman Lubowa and Frank ‘Video’ Anyau face off in a Police-Victor battle in an action that might reflect on who of the two makes a top two finish.
The two sides are toying with ideas of playing fast and effective football.
“I am not a coward and I am leading a very good side that will have to surprise many. We will attack right from go,” said Anyau.
For perennial campaigners KCC, the goals of Anthony Bongole, the organising of Idi Ssebalaata, the ball-winning of Tony Mawejje and Rogers Atugonza should prove sufficient to dump Mityana Utoda in the other tie.
Defending champions SC Villa start their campaign on Saturday.
