Another person has died of cholera in Katanga, Wandegeya, where an outbreak of the disease has been confirmed.
Five people have died since the outbreak in Kimwanyi zone last week.

The LC1 chairman, Hassan Wasswa, yesterday said David Nsubuga died on Thursday night at around 10:00pm after suffering from severe malaria and diarrhoea.

The city secretary for health, Francis Lubowa, said Kampala City Council (KCC) had stopped the selling of food and drinks openly in the area.

“People should move. The area has been turned into a lake of sewage,” he said.

Lubowa said a team of health workers was on the ground sensitising people on how to improve their hygiene. Katanga is a slum area with a population of about 2,000 people. It has four functional latrines.

Lubowa blamed Parliament and the office of the Kampala resident district commissioner for the mess.

“They intervened but no report has been produced. We wanted to demolish the houses so that a new sewer line is constructed but Parliament stopped us,” Lubowa said.
