THE army on Sunday killed five LRA rebels in two separate gun battles in Pader and Gulu.
Some other rebels are believed to have drowned in River Ajan in Pader where the battle between the rebels and the UPDF mobile troops took place.
The army spokesman in the north, Lt. Tabaro Kiconco, on Monday said four rebels were shot dead along the river in Atanga sub-county, Aruu county.
“The rebels fled and abandoned two guns with an assortment of military equipment and looted items,” he said.
Kiconco said the rebels had earlier on Sunday ambushed and killed two civilians at Okinga in Laguti sub-county, Aruu.
“We suspect that the death toll of the rebels will go up because it looks like some of them drowned in the river. Our troops are on the round searching,” Kiconco said.
He also said a thug who had been disguising as a rebel and terrorising the community in Gulu town was shot dead at Olai-Long in Kirombe parish in Gulu Municipality when he tried to resist arrest.
“We have stepped up security surveillance in the north to catch up with thugs who want to terrorise residents,” he said.
