Uganda started their warm up for tomorrow’s Mini World Cup on a false note when they lost two build-up games to Canada and Papua New Guinea in Belfast.

Canada managed 153 in 46.1 overs as Uganda faltered at 135 all out for an 18 run defeat on Tuesday.

Uganda’s opening batsmen again failed to steer the ship.

Junior Kwebiiha was Uganda’s top scorer with 27 runs, while Nand Kishor and Kenneth Kamyuka added 21 each.

Frank Nsubuga returned the best bowling figures of the game picking three for 16 while youngster Emmanuel Issaneez had three for 24. Kamyuka also picked two for 24.

Yesterday Uganda were bowled out for 121 runs with Kamyuka and skipper Joel Olweny managing 25 and 24 respectively.

Nsubuga was once again the pick of the bowlers with three for 32. Kamyuka and Issaneez took two each.

Action proper starts tomorrow with Uganda taking on Denmark.

* South Africa would not support calls for a boycott of Zimbabwe, Cricket South Africa (CSA) said on Tuesday.

“We view tours to and from Zimbabwe as cricketing matters, and we will continue to meet our obligations to the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Zimbabwe Cricket Union (ZCU) in this regard,” a CSA media release quoted chief executive Gerald Majola as saying.

Majola was reacting to reports that the New Zealand government planned to ask the ICC to suspend the ZCU because of human rights abuses in Zimbabwe.

“CSA is at the forefront of developing Africa into a major cricketing continent,” he said.
