UGANDA Revenue Authority (URA) officials have asked car importers to report URA staff who demand for bribes.

“If there is any URA official asking for bribes for faster clearance of your vehicles, please report them to us,” said Peter Malinga, the URA commissioner for customs and excise.

Malinga, amidst applause said last Thursday that the recent restructuring at the tax body had improved service delivery.

This was during a meeting between URA officers, used car importers and the clearing and forwarding agents at the Uganda Manufacturers Association Conference Hall.

Malinga, however, blamed importers for the delays by presenting improper documents.

“Let us accept that there are inconsistencies on URA officials and importers.

“Sometimes you overvalue or undervalue the vehicles. This is a problem,” Malinga said.
