WORK on the Kampala Northern-bypass has been blocked by an individual whose compensation of over sh8b has not been effected.

The project encountered the obstacle where the major roundabout on the highway is to be constructed.
The owner of the three-acre land has blocked the contractor from carrying on with any works on his property.

Dr. Petero Dankaine, a retired civil servant, has vowed not to allow any contract machine near his property.

“I have never been compensated and even after the valuation, no report has ever been brought out. I am going to fight on because this is my property and no one can force me out of it,” he said.

The director of the Road Agency Formation Unit (RAFU), Ken Foulds, said sh18b was released to compensate for the land, crops and buildings affected by the construction.

He said due to land ownership identification problems exacerbated by poor land records, there were some locations along the alignment where land acquisition procedures are still ongoing.
