THE sh50,000 Carol Nalweyiso, a.k.a Mama carol had been saving per week for the past six months was lost in a fire that gutted several houses in Wabigalo central zone on Wednesday afternoon.
Nicholas Kajoba reports that Nalweyiso had kept the money in a water jug which melted when fire gutted houses in the city suburb.

“I wanted to set up a shop in this area but I have been left with nothing,” Mama Carol, a charcoal seller, narrated.

The Police said onlookers and ‘sympathetic’ neighbours resorted to looting from houses that caught fire under the disguise of saving property.

They said the fire started from a charcoal stove in one of the houses.
The Fire Brigade arrived after 30 minutes and stopped the fire from spreading, but most of the property in the affected homes had been destroyed.
