IT is time to rid the National Resistance Movement (NRM) of detractors who are hindering its political and socio-economic programmes, the Vice-President has said.

Prof. Gilbert Bukenya (left) said there was need to clean up the NRM and allow people with different ideas to form parties of their choice, instead of tearing up the organisation from within.

He was addressing residents of Kanzize-Kyondo in Masulita sub-county in Wakiso district on Friday, a statement from his press unit said.

Bukenya said an all-embracing political system had been the challenge of the Movement Government. He called upon Ugandans to use their constitutional right in the coming referendum to vote ‘Yes’, represented by a tree, and embrace multiparty rule.

He said multiparty politics would streamline the NRM to provide efficient services to the people. He said the goals and objectives of the NRM would remain the same.

“The future of the NRM is bright and we should be united, firm and welcome as many people as possible to the organisation,” Bukenya said.

He thanked residents for supporting the Movement wholeheartedly, which has ensured quality social amenities.

He urged them to improve their household income, food sustainability and housing.

The LC3 chairman, Emmanuel Katongole, thanked the Government for funding the upgrading and maintenance of roads like the Gogero-Kiroro-Masulita highway.
