TWO Ugandan athletes are listed in the top ten in their races this year in the latest IAAF World Rankings.

Dorcus Inzikuru tops the women’s 3000m-steeplechase times, while Boniface Kiprop, who is ranked sixth by the IAAF in both the 5000m and 10000m, has run the 9th and 12th best times respectively this year.

Inzikuru (right) goes to the World Athletics Championships next week with the fastest time in the steeplechase this year (9:15:04).

The July edition of the IAAF magazine lists Kiprop as one of the runners most likely to claim a medal.

“On the three previous occasions when the World Championships have come round the following year after an Olympics, a whole clutch of competitors have risen from fourth place to the medal podium,” the IAAF magazine noted.

Kiprop is one of four fourth place finishers profiled from the 2004 Athens Olympics.

Other athletes marked by the IAAF magazine to break their fourth-place blues include Jamie Nieto (USA) and the Jamaicans Trecia Smith and Maurice Wignall.
