NAIROBI, Thursday – Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki will attend the funeral of the late Sudanese vice-president and ex-rebel leader John Garang today, the government said Thursday.
Kibaki, who hosted the signing of a peace deal ending Sudan’s 21-year north-south civil war in January and was close to Garang, will head Kenya’s delegation to Juba, spokesman Alfred Mutua said.

Mbeki to bury
JOHANNESBURG, Friday – South African President Thabo Mbeki will depart for Sudan on Saturday from Addis Ababa to attend the funeral of John Garang, a foreign affairs spokesman said Friday. Ronnie Mamoepa said Mbeki was in Ethiopia attending an emergency African Union summit called to discuss the security situation in Sudan and Mauritania, where the army seized power in a coup on Wednesday.

Bush sends

President Bush announced on Thursday that a delegation led by USAID administrator Andrew S. Natsios would attend the funeral of John Garang. Garang, who had recently become the country’s first vice-president, died in a helicopter crash last weekend.
