THE Buganda Education Commission has asked all schools in the region to promote the teaching of arts subjects. The call comes at a time when the Government has scaled down arts scholarships to public universities in a bid to promote sciences.

The commissioner for secondary education in the Buganda government, Josephine Lubwama, while officiating at Lubiri High School Sports day recently, said: “Although sciences have been used to develop the economies of other countries, arts have also played a major role in the development of Uganda’s economy and should therefore not be ignored.”

She urged school administrators to also promote extra curricula activities, especially sports and music.

Lubwama said many students have different talents, which they can exploit in order to develop. She appealed to Baganda and well-wishers to contribute towards the construction of the Buganda University.
