— Speaker Edward Ssekandi has warned politicians against bad politics, which may plunge the country into turmoil. He was speaking during a party at the home of the district Movement chairman, Joseph Kiyimba, in Soweto on Sunday. Ssekandi said mature politics would promote unity and development.

— The UK conservative Party (CP) has promised to support DP in the 2006 elections. A CP official, Duncan Macfarne, said DP was among the priority programmes considered for support. During a meeting at Bwala Social Centre on Monday, Macfarne said President Museveni was not a democratic leader. The meeting attracted over 500 DP members.

— The New Generation of Free Ugandans Organisation (NGOFU) has criticised the manner in which the Electoral Commission (EC) conducted the referendum. “Why is it that voter education was delayed? Why is that some people thought it was a presidential election? Some people even turned up for presidential elections,” the party chairman, Edgar Kugonza, told a press conference at Old Kampala yesterday.

KAYUNGA
— The district Uganda People’s Congress chief, David Kikomeko, has declared his intention to vie for the Ntenjeru North parliamentary seat. Addressing the press at the Ssezibwa taxi park offices on Sunday, Kikomeko said he was determined to oust Sarah Nansubuga, a Movement supporter.
