Kagonyera is happy
These are certainly happy times for general duties minister Prof. Mondo Kagonyera in the Prime Minister’s Office. While officiating at the opening of a five-day education conference at Speke Resort Munyonyo last week, Kagonyera took time off to reminisce the days gone by in Kabale when his fortunes had not yet matured. “I am now a happy man. I used to cover myself with a mat, eat one meal a day and walk many miles to school. I would walk to school barefoot. But now I am a minister, I sleep in a big house and I am chauffeured in a big powerful car, and can eat anything I want,†he bragged. How the times have changed!
Yellow Ssebagereka
Donations and gifts given to chief guests, especially to politicians, must be selected carefully these days. While officiating as chief guest at the annual general meeting of Traditional, Health and Modern practitioners against HIV/AIDS in Kamwokya on Friday, Kayunga woman MP Victoria Ssebagereka and self-confessed Movementist almost refused a blue T-shirt she was given as a gift. Since blue is the official colour of FDC, she said it was not her movement colour, yellow. She reluctantly accepted it saying, “We in the movement wear yellow but now I have to wear this blue T-Shirt concurrently with the yellow one, so that I am not misunderstood.â€
Generous Nyeko
Regional police commander for Kampala, Benson Oyo Nyeko must be a really generous guy. While addressing the weekly police briefing on Monday, he was worried by the low turn-up of scribes. “Today the house is not full, is it because you are still mourning your colleague Mwenda? I pray that you don’t fall victim and if you do, its fine with us, we are generous and are accommodative.†He said. He added, “we have enough free accommodation, bedding and free meals, so you can come in any time.†Who hates freebies?
Otafiire explains
Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafire says ministers don't depend on government funds. While opening the African Minister's Council on Water (AMCOW) Presidents support office in Kololo on Friday, he said, "When I advocate reduction on water tariffs people think its me who wants to benefit. but as a minister I can afford to get clean water and as a middle income earner and I don't depend on government funds for treatment because ministers don't fall sick.†Good analysis!
