MINISTRY of Gender officials on Thursday averted an embarrassing situation when a cultural leader turned up at the official launch of the monthly financial upkeep of cultural/traditional leaders.

They politely asked Wonyachi Yosam Odur, the Langi chief, to wait in the minister’s room until the function was over.

This was moments before gender minister Bakoko Bakoru arrived at the boardroom to officiate at the event.

“The ministry sent formal invitations to all the cultural institutions on Tuesday, asking them to send representatives to pick the money,” acting assistant commissioner for gender Bernard Lubega Bakaye said.

He said it would have been demeaning of the chief to attend.
Odur was reportedly in Kampala when he learnt of the event and had apparently not received the official communication.
