LIRA, APACH - Teachers have been urged to sensitise the community on the dangers of malaria as one of the top killers in Uganda.
The director, Family Integrated Service and Health Development (FISHD), Dr George Olwit, appealed to people to give Homapax medication to children when they are feverish as the fastest treatment before consulting the doctor. FISHD is a Lira-based NGO against malaria with the support from the global fund.

ARV outlet center
WAKISO - Kasangati health centre and Kisubi hospital have been listed among the health units to start giving out ARVs to people living with HIV/Aids. The programme run by the ministry of health, is funded by the Uganda Programme for Human and Holistic Development. The director of health services, Dr Emmanuel Mukisa, said already 43 people from Wakiso are on ARVs.

Link HIV and TB
KAMPALA - The Ministry of Health is planning to establish a communication strategy with the objective of improving service delivery and treatment of Tuberculosis (TB) and HIV. Assistant commissioner for Health Services, Alex Opio, said this strategy is expected to bring a radical change that will tackle the two diseases. At the moment, there is a very low utilisation of mostly TB services.
Opio said it was important to tackle the two diseases together because there is a close link between TB and HIV. A person with HIV is easily affected by TB, the health centres and laboratories are the same. That is why understanding the relationship between HIV and TB is important in management.
