THE Pearl of Africa Uganda rally will benefit from route surveillance worth sh25m by planes provided by Bukasa Air Service.

The company yesterday offered a Cessna 206 light aircraft to survey the route ahead of cars and a Beech Kingair nine-seater that will be on standby for medical evacuation.

The Cessna will also circulate promotional flyers in Jinja, Masaka and Kampala.

Bukasa Air Service flight operations director Emmanuel Mutebi announced the offer yesterday.

The event last had aerial route surveillance in the dramatic 2001 edition that saw Emma Katto drop out after a few sections in a freshly acquired WRC Subaru.

Chipper Adams did not last day one in his new Mitsubishi while Charles Muhangi, who was setting the pace, was disqualified for tampering with the turbo of his Ekitaguriro.

Charlie Lubega thereafter stole the show.

Nine drivers including African title contenders Zambian Munna Singh and Uganda’s Riyaz Kurji have entered the Pearl rally.

Speke Resort, Spear Motors, Alpha Dairy Products, Packaging Technologies, WBS T.V, Bukasa Air Services, TOTAL Uganda and Fire Masters are co-sponsors of the event that is the last round of the 2005 Africa Rally Championship.
